After spearheading the alternative country movement with his band Uncle Tupelo, Jay Farrar pursued his vision with Son Volt, who recorded three landmark albums in the ’90s before the groundbreaking artist put the band on extended hiatus and cut three solo records. Now back with his third Son Volt album of the decade, Jay Farrar has delivered what may be his finest work yet, American Central Dust. The new album exhilaratingly carries on the tradition of the Byrds, the Flying Burrito Brothers, Little Feat circa Sailin’ Shoes, the Rolling Stones of Exile on Main Street and early R.E.M.

The Fiery Furnaces are a U.S. indie rock band formed in Brooklyn, New York, in 2000. They played twice in Brooklyn as The Suckers before performing as The Fiery Furnaces (with an unchanged line-up). The band’s primary members are Matthew and Eleanor Friedberger. The brother and sister are originally from Oak Park, Illinois, a near-western suburb of Chicago. I’m Going Away is The Fiery Furnaces’ eighth album. It is to be released on July 21, 2009.

Music legend Levon Helm will be returning to the Twin Cities for what should be an amazing show June 10th at the Fitzgerald Theatre. Helm cut his teeth drumming and singing in the late ’60s with the seminal classic rock band the Band (who themselves backed up many musical legends before breaking out on their own). Helm was an integral part of the group’s string of classic albums, including Music from the Big Pink and The Band, which culminated with The Last Waltz (a film which brilliantly covered their final show ever).

Wilco (The Album) is the seventh studio album by American alternative rock group Wilco which is expected to be released June 30, 2009. The band has finished mastering the album and have released the track listing. According to lead singer Jeff Tweedy, the band will “allow a little bit more leeway in terms of sculpting the sound in the studio and doing overdubs and using the studio as another instrument”.

Nothing Personal is the third full-length studio album by American pop punk band All Time Low, scheduled to be released through Hopeless Records on 7 July 2009. The band is finished recording, with it being produced by Matt Squire, Butch Walker, David Bendeth and the team of S*A*M & Sluggo. Although the band spent time writing a collaboration with Mark Hoppus of Blink-182, the song will not feature on Nothing Personal, with vocalist Gaskarth stating, “It just didn’t fit the vibe of the record,” but, “It will definitely come out at some time.”

The members of Sound Tribe Sector 9 have always proudly proclaimed their political, social and cultural consciousness and activism, but their newest album is probably their most direct embodiment of that philosophy. Ursa Major is the upcoming fourth studio album from San Francisco Alternative rock band Third Eye Blind. Originally, it was titled The Hideous Strength, after C.S. Lewis’ book. But since first reports, the album has changed to Ursa Major. Originally scheduled to be released on June 23rd, the album’s release has been pushed back to August 18th. When released, Ursa Major will be the first studio album from the band in over six years. The first single off the album is “Don’t Believe a Word” and it was released June 5th, 2009.

The members have roots in Chicago’s fertile music scene, playing in various indie rock and punk groups. Peter (Pete) Yorn (born July 27, 1974) is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist who first gained international recognition when his music, including the song “Strange Condition”, appeared in the 2000 film Me, Myself & Irene. Yorn also wrote the film’s score. Back and Fourth is the fourth full-length release from singer/songwriter Pete Yorn. It will be released on June 23rd, 2009, and was produced by Mike Mogis.
